Reads World of Wine Ltd, as the UK agent of Grape Expectations (Ireland) Ltd, is the largest supplier of 187ml bottles of wine to the UK pub, restaurant and catering markets. It is a company founded by Geoff Read, the man responsible for growing Ballygowan bottled water, from a concept, into one of the UK’s largest bottled water brands, prior to its acquisition by a subsidiary of Allied Domecq in 1993.

Since Geoff started Reads World of Wine in the mid-nineties, The Minicellar Range has inspired growth of 187ml single serve wines in the Irish market to now account for approximately 80% of all wines sold in the Irish On Trade, with almost 90% of Irish pubs and bars now stocking them. It has also led the way in opening up the ‘single serve’ category in the UK to now representing the fastest area for wine growth in the UK On Trade. However when you consider the quality of the wines in The Minicellar Range and the plentiful benefits of enjoying wine in this way, it becomes easy to see just how appealing the opportunity of stocking these wines really is.

So what is The Minicellar all about?

The Minicellar Range is the world’s leading, specialist range of branded, high quality quarter bottles of wine; a single serve size that allows you to experiment with new varietals and countries of origin, with the guarantee of a ‘fresh serve’, every time.

The range features leading wine brands from around the world, including: Gallo Family Vineyards, Jacobs Creek, Lindemans, Oxford Landing, Mateus Rose, Kumala and many others, all in ‘mini-me’ branded bottles that are presented on a wooden counter-top display. It’s an instant wine offering for licensees that features many of the leading high street brands and makes easy the often over-complicated subject of wine and wine menus.

These wines also make sound financial sense. There’s no wastage; no hidden costs, such as the cleaning of pipes for bag-in-box or expensive wine preservation systems and no corks to pull during busy periods. Single serve wines present licensees with good cash margins and the opportunity to increase sales through existing customers, as well as enticing new business into your pub – those who are more likely to stay and eat, thus increasing food sales, as opposed to 18-24 year old male beer drinkers.
